Armed police and police helicopter hunt three youths after reports of 'firearm' in Lincoln

Police have revealed armed police and a police helicopter were called to an area in Lincoln after reports of youngsters carrying a firearm. Officers received the call at 11.58am today, Tuesday, August 11, after a resident reported seeing one of three youths carrying a suspected firearm in the Tower Drive area of Lincoln, near Monks Road. As things stand, the police say the report is unconfirmed but there will be a large police presence in the area while officers investigate the incident.

Lincolnshire Police also clarified that there had been no escaped prisoner, contrary to several reports on social media.

The NPAS helicopter could be heard flying over the Monks Road area of the city at around 1pm this afternoon, but was also spotted over Skellingthorpe Road, Carlton Road, Dixon Street, Tritton Road, Stamp End and Waterside South. The variety of areas in which it has been spotted indicates the lengths police have gone to so far to trace the three people.

A Lincolnshire Police spokesperson said: “We received a call at 11.58am today (11 August), reporting that one of three youths seen in the Tower Drive area of Lincoln was holding what may have been a firearm. “Although this report is unconfirmed, armed officers were deployed, and the NPAS helicopter has been used as part of our response.

“There will be a continuing police presence in the area as we continue to investigate this incident.

“Anyone with information should call 101, quoting Incident 178 of 11 August.”
