Woman allegedly knocked hospital security guard out with headbutt
A YOUNG woman headbutted a hospital security guard, knocking him unconscious, while she was being taken out of the building, it has been alleged. odey Doherty (22) is accused of leaving the doorman with concussion in an attack at the Mater Hospital in central Dublin. Judge Bryan Smyth adjourned the case at Dublin District Court. Ms Doherty, of The Forge, Railway Street, in the north inner city, is charged with assault causing harm to the man on August 2 last year.
Garda Sergeant Tony Flanagan said the DPP had consented to the case being dealt with summarily in the district court, subject to a judge considering jurisdiction. Removed Outlining the prosecution’s case, he said the accused was being removed from the Mater Hospital when she allegedly headbutted a security guard.
This rendered him unconscious and he stayed overnight in the Mater, having sustained concussion. He was off work for five days, Sgt Flanagan said. A medical report was not yet available to the court, but Sgt Flanagan said he understood there was no lasting injury as a result of the alleged assault.
The judge said the alleged victim had obviously received medical attention and the court did not have a report yet. He deferred a decision on jurisdiction. The accused was not required to be in court and Judge Smyth remanded her on continuing bail in her absence to a date in July.
